I also enjoy helping caregivers learn to more successfully support their loved ones who are managing complex illnesses and eating disorders. I am a certified PCIT therapist and Within Agency Trainer through PCIT International.
My intervention expertise includes: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Comprehensive Behavior Intervention for Tics/Tourette Syndrome (CBIT), E/RP (exposure and response prevention), Family Based Therapy (FBT), Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Central Michigan University. I am a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Academy of Eating Disorders (AED), Anxiety and Depression Association of America, (ADAA), International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and in addition to completing a fellowship at University of Florida's Center for OCD and Anxiety Related Disorders, I completed additional training through IOCDF's Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI).
It can be hard to take the first step to work with psychologist. Often conditions like OCD or other emotional concerns go untreated due to shame and stigma about seeking help. That's why at Brandywine Psychology, we strive to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where clients can share and learn to understand their thoughts and feelings. We are compassionate and irreverent. We use humor and validation to bring hard to face feelings into the light. Plus, we do what works so we can get you back to your life!
Specialized Expertise: Psychologists earn doctoral degrees and have training in understanding the current science so they can have more training in understanding the best interventions for problems young people face. Dr. Cammarata is a board-certified child and adolescent psychologist which means completing additional peer reviewed training and evaluation to determine expertise.
Evidence-based Therapy- It is important to us that you see results. We don't guess at what will help young people, we use what has been tested by science.
Our anxiety and OCD treatments are designed to help clients overcome anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic, phobias, OCD, and social anxiety. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (E/RP) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) have research to suggest that it works to help clients address their symptoms and develop long-term coping skills. These interventions can help you break free from obsessions and uncomfortable sensations and rituals.
Family Based Therapy is the gold standard for youth with restricting eating disorders. We collaborate with your pediatrician and empower you as parents to support your teen's recovery.
We also offer CBT for ARFID across the lifespan to help you or your child become a competent eater and gain more control over life and how the body is nourished.
Trichotillomania (Trich), is a Body-focused Repetitive Behavior Disorder (BFRB) often referred to as “hair-pulling disorder,” that affects millions of people. Trich and other BFRB's can cause intense shame and anxiety as well as impact one's appearance and self-esteem. Psychologists trained in effective treatments like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), habit reversal training, and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) can help reduce these behaviors and help you feel good about yourself again. Medication, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), may also be prescribed in certain cases.
